Page 2 Corpus Christi Parish, Bay City October 3, 2021 From the Desk of Father Kelm HOMILY: 27 th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle B, 10/3/21 Readings: Gen 2:1824 Heb 2:911 Mk 10:216 OPENERS: Sir 49:16 beyond that of any living being was the splendor of Adam. Christian, acknowledge your dignity Pope St. Leo the Great There are profound parallels in today s readings. Remember in St. John s Gospel, when Jesus is speaking with the Samaritan woman at the well (ref. 4:24), He tells her that God is spirit. Consequently, we know that God has no body, however, being a spirit, He does have an Intellect and a Will. We also know from John (1:14) that the Son of God is a well framed word that fully describes the characteristics, indeed the perfections, of His Father, and that this word is mysteriously a living Divine Being (ref. Jn 1:1). In his first letter, John tells us that this Word is love (ref. 1 Jn 4:8 & 16). In due course, our Father sent His only begotten Son into time to become our Teacher, saving Redeemer and Intercessor. To do so, His Son, The Word, assumed a human nature to Himself, became a man in the womb of the evervirgin Mary, and was named Jesus by His earthly foster father, St. Joseph. So then, Jesus is the Father s Son by reasoning of God s Intellect, indeed issuing from His Divine Intellect, by the power of His Divine Will. The awesome parallel with Adam and Eve is that she was built up into a human being in her own right by God using one of Adam s ribs! Adam considered her almost a part of himself as he said, This one, at last, is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh, practically an extension of himself. The respectful, loving cooperation that exists between God the Father and Jesus through the willed binding together by the Holy Spirit, was Adam and Eve s as well! Their primordial innocence seems to have lasted just a short time, until it was interrupted by the jealous contagion of Satan, who broke up their happy home as they lived in imitation of the Holy Trinity. The human race has been striving to regain that lost, happy, pure hearted innocence ever since! The exhilaration of a newly realized love seems to get there a little bit anyway. Take heart and don t give up hope, this striving is ennobling can be grace filled and virtue building. As the Father and the Son mutually decide to love the other in a rational decision, their affection stirs into being, spirates if you will, the Holy Spirit the Spirit of Love. The Holy Trinity became the wellspring of love as that mutual love just had to manifest itself through Creation, and has never stopped In our lives, we too, make conscious decisions to love another, and when we speak them during our Nuptial Consents, we are engraced by God to imitate the Trinity. From that point on, our lives become heroic imitations of the Trinity as we build families and futures courageously in the face of nowadays menacing, evil chaos. But, then again, He did say indignantly, Let the children come to Me; do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these In the face of it all, we must remember the Lord s recompense for holiness, the innocent soul s reward, which is a more gratifying heritage in the Lord s temple, that is Heaven. (ref. Wis 2:22 & 3:14b) Courage and trust! Hebrews informs us that Jesus was made perfect through suffering; this is to be understood as, in His humanity, when He forgave His murderers just before He died on the Cross. Forgiveness, or mercy, is the apex of Charity on display by Jesus. He consecrated Himself for us, and we who believe, to our Father, Who is our one origin, Therefore, He is not ashamed to call them brothers. Let us accept our sacrificial lives of service to be lived in a holy and happy way, so that we may call Jesus brother with unabashed faces when we meet Him on the other side. Kevin s Corner A Saint in Training Never call yourself a bad person, but rather a saintintraining. That s the advice of former Director of The Christophers Father John Stewardship Thought 27 th Sunday in Ordinary Time So the Lord God formed out of the ground various wild animals and birds of the air, and he brought them to the man to see what he would call them; whatever the man called each of them would be its name. Genesis 2:19 In the story of creation, we learn that from the very beginning of time, God gave us the world and put it into our care. We are obliged to care for those around us and use our gifts from Him to benefit others. Catoir, and it s a truth he learned from his years counseling people as part of his priestly ministry. During a Christopher Closeup interview, Father Catoir noted that doctors have lots of evidence to show that negative thinking will destroy your mental health. Many hours of counseling ordinary people about their problems, as well as several years leading a ministry for recovering addicts called Eva s Village, allowed him to see that evidence firsthand. He said, If you have a belief that you re not a good person, even though you re trying to be good, that undermines your mental health and it has to be rooted out. If you can t say you re a saint, you can say, I m a saintintraining. I m a good person, and I m trying to get better. But there s no way that you should say you re a bad person because God made you, and everything God made is good. Increase my sense of selfworth, Divine Creator. Prayer Line Nita Lamkin 6847105 Janet Brandt 6843366 Barbara Poirier 8958700 The 2020/2021 campaign has ended, although we are still taking contributions, because our parish must pay the outstanding balance of: $16,683.00 If you can help, please put in the Collection Basket or drop off at the Parish Office. Thank You All! Faith Formation got off to a great start last Sunday! There is still time to get your children involved. Receiving Sacraments does not mean that Faith Formation stops; we continue to learn about God and His working in our lives for as long as we live! If your children are not old enough for an adult study group. they should be enrolled in our Faith Formation program!! We are hoping to get a youth ministry session started (perhaps Sunday evenings?). Please contact Amy at ccfaithformationoffice@gmail.com with questions, or to get your child(ren) signed up. Families intending to have their children receive First Communion and First Reconciliation this year, must have children registered and attending regular Faith Formation weekly classes no later than October 10th. A parent and child meeting for Sacrament preparation will be held in midoctober. SPONSOR OF THE WEEK
