ST. BERNARD OF CLAIRVAUX CHURCH JANUARY BRADFORD, 23, 2022 PA We have to ask ourselves, how would Jesus be received today, if He went back to His hometown to preach? How thick would be the media coverage? Would the headlines read: Local boy makes good or local boy is a flop? Would they interview Jesus and His mother? There would be a lot of questions and a lot of buzz. If you read the other passages surrounding this one, the townspeople were curious to see Jesus; mostly because of His new-found reputation. They wanted to see what this local boy could do for them. But to the amazement of the crowd and the media coverage He was a flop. The media was surprised that the crowd wanted to push Him over a cliff. We have to ask ourselves: Why was Jesus a flop in His own hometown? In the passage that we have heard, Jesus simply states, as it were, His platform for being; no mention of a revolt or overthrow; simply stated everything that possibly could be called positive. No hint of one-upmanship, no radical overthrow of government. Just simply love and compassion for the down-trodden. So why would the people not accept Jesus. Simply because they could not see the forest for the trees. Jesus grew up in the town, he played with their children and vice-versa. They saw Jesus as no different as their kids. What did the people say of Him: Where did He get all of this wisdom; is not Joseph, His father? In their eyes Jesus was just one of them - for He grew up with them. How do we see Jesus? Who or what does Jesus mean to us? Do we see Jesus only as some miracle worker, or do we see Him truly as the Anointed One, the Messiah, Son of God? We must not point a finger at the people of Nazareth, they are no better nor worse than we are sometimes. Like them, we cannot see the forest for the trees. As the scriptures states: Jesus could not work there because of their lack of faith. How many times in our life do we put our faith on the back-burner and do not see the hand of God in our life. As we hear Jesus said to them: Today this scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing. Even at this present moment as your read this monologue, this scripture passage continues to be fulfilled in our presence. God Bless, Fr. Ray COMMUNITY BLOOD BANK The Blood Bank will be available in the St. Bernard Gymnasium Monday, January 31st 12:00 Noon until 5:00 pm A NOTE FROM FR. RAY: St. Francis Parishioners: Thank you for meeting our CSA goal of $22,249. We actually have a surplus of $1,831 that we will be able to add to our daily operating account. St. Bernard Parishioners: Thank you for meeting our CSA goal of $34,619 and exceeding it by $9,323 which we will help us to begin some much-needed upgrades to St. Bernard gym. We are working on a new heating system presently and hope to upgrade the lighting and windows also. This summer we have plans for a new roof on the other part of the building. Final 2021 CSA pledge payments were due by the end of December. Any payments received going forward will be held for the 2022 Catholic Service Appeal which begins in February. Watch the bulletin for more information on Commitment Sunday! JANUARY 23, 2022 The Bradford Council #403 of the Knights of Columbus meet monthly on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm at the parish office. Next meeting Feb 8, 2022 Call Mark Luciano at 368-5508 for more information. MARRIAGE MOMENTS Because we are humans, we have eyes, ears, hands, feet, and many other body parts. Ideally, they all work together. Is there any part of your body that sometimes gives you trouble? How might your beloved aid or comfort you? Ask. FAMILY LIFE In today s gospel Jesus was praised by all except at home in Nazareth where the eyes of all were intently on him. Acceptance can be hard to find at home due to unreal EX- PECTATIONS. Jesus challenges us to proclaim liberty to anyone oppressed or captive by our EXPECTATIONS. 2021 FINANCIAL STATEMENTS REQUEST FORMS for a 2021 Financial printout for tax purposes can be found in the back of the Church. Return them to the Parish Office or in the Sunday collection. Help Spread the Faith Today we take up the collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC). Your support helps CCC engage and build Catholic communities in the United States and around the world using the internet, television, radio, and print media. Half the funds we collect remain here at St. Bernard, St Francis and OMPH to support local efforts. Be a part of this campaign to spread the Gospel message. Support the collection today! To learn more, visit www.usccb.org/ccc. SUPPORT YOUR BULLETIN Your bulletin is paid for by our advertisers on the back page. Please consider purchasing an ad through LPi for you business.
